President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is expected to hold a high-level security meeting with service chiefs and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, following his return from an 18-day working visit to France and the United Kingdom.

The President, who landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at 9:50 p.m. on Monday aboard the Air Force 001 jet, is said to be deeply concerned by the wave of deadly attacks in parts of the country, particularly in Plateau, Benue, and Borno states.

Since Tinubu’s departure on April 2, more than 120 people have reportedly been killed by armed assailants in a string of attacks that have also displaced thousands. In Benue alone, at least 56 residents were slain in Logo and Gbagir communities during twin assaults linked to suspected armed herders.

Despite the deployment of security personnel to these troubled areas, the violence has persisted, with several homes razed and an estimated 3,000 persons forced to flee.

Multiple sources within the presidency confirmed that President Tinubu, who had been receiving regular security briefings while abroad, would convene a strategy session with military chiefs to assess the situation and formulate a coordinated response.

“The President will certainly meet the service chiefs to review the security situation across the country and the flashpoint of Plateau, Benue and Borno.

“He has been getting security briefings while away and giving directives to the security chiefs. So, he will meet his security chiefs and ministers too,” a senior government official told newsmen on Monday.
