The Speakership crisis rocking in the Lagos State House of Assembly has been finally resolved as the lawmakers stood their ground for Rt (Hon) Mojisola Meranda as their Speaker at the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) meeting .
The Meeting which lasted for almost 7hours at the Lagos House, Marina, had in attendence the GAC members and 39 members of the House of Assembly.
It was gathered that former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa was conspicuously missing at the meeting.
It was gathered that the lawmakers unanimously reaffirmed that Speaker Meranda was their choice and rejected zoning the position to the Lagos West Senatorial District to give room for a Speaker from the district.
Sources said that lawmakers from the Lagos West told the GAC that they were not interested in the seat as they have all settled for Speaker Meranda.
It would be recalled that 32 members of the House of Assembly on January 13 removed former Speaker Obasa over alleged high-handedness, lateness to plenary, and abuse of power.
The Lawmakers immediately replaced Obasa with his Deputy Speaker, Rt (Hon) Mojisola Meranda.
Her speakership ever since January 13 had garnered momentum and endorsements from across various stakeholders including former lawmakers, Students Movement, Women groups and party supporters.
Meranda remains as the first female Speaker in Lagos.
