The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a N20 billion proposal from the Nigeria Customs Service for the procurement of compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles and the construction of forward operating bases in remote areas.

Speaking after the FEC meeting, Minister of Finance Wale Edun also confirmed that the government has approved a N1 billion life insurance policy for customs officers, reinforcing its commitment to the welfare and security of personnel.

“In addition to other decisions taken today, Customs secured approval for N20 billion worth of critical projects—including CNG-powered vehicles, the construction and furnishing of facilities, particularly forward bases in remote areas, and a N1 billion life insurance policy for officers,” Edun stated.

The minister emphasized that these decisions align with the government’s broader agenda of improving healthcare, human capital development, and financial sustainability.

He noted that the investments in CNG vehicles reflect the administration’s push for clean energy and cost-effective transportation across government agencies.

In May last year, FEC also directed that all new vehicles, generators, or tricycles procured by the government and its agencies must be powered by CNG, solar, or electricity.
