OBASANJO, TIME TO TAKE A REST!

Criticism is welcome, but there's a line between constructive input and divisive grandstanding, which only undermines the unity Nigeria urgently needs.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s relentless attacks on President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope administration are less about Nigeria’s progress and more about preserving his influence.

Criticism is welcome, but there’s a line between constructive input and divisive grandstanding, which only undermines the unity Nigeria urgently needs.

The President Tinubu-led administration, with its focus on the sustainability of the economy, has embarked on tough but necessary reforms. Rather than tearing down these efforts, Obasanjo should be rallying for national support if he truly cares about Nigeria’s progress.

Obasanjo’s own tenure had its share of flaws, many of which contributed to the challenges Nigeria faces today.

His selective memory and relentless public condemnations ignore the very real issues created by his administration, issues still being addressed by subsequent leaders. It’s hypocritical to lambast a sitting government while turning a blind eye to the lasting consequences of his own leadership.

If he has honest advice to offer, he should do so directly and with respect. The dignity of public discourse should be upheld, not by grandstanding in the public arena.

President Tinubu’s government deserves a fair chance to tackle the nation’s challenges without interference from those who had their turn.

Obasanjo, an elder statesman who once carried the weight of the office, should understand the demands of leadership better than most.

Nigeria does not need more division or distractions; it needs wisdom and collaboration. The importance of collaboration cannot be overstated.

Obasanjo’s legacy would be best served by showing restraint, offering private counsel if necessary, and finally allowing Nigeria to move forward.
