Ogun’s 2024 Budget 80% Implemented – Abiodun

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun on Tuesday reported that his administration has already achieved an 80 percent implementation rate for its 2024 budget.

Abiodun attributed this success to increased funds resulting from the effective maximization of various revenue sources and the closure of system leakages.

The Governor made this statement during a town hall meeting on the 2025-2027 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and 2025 Budget for the Ogun West Senatorial District, held in Ilaro.

Represented by Chief Economic Adviser and Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo, Abiodun explained that his administration leveraged the State’s competitive and comparative advantages and established ministries and agencies to boost revenue.

The governor stated: “To set the record straight, before our administration came into office in 2019, budget implementation was below 40 percent. However, we have now raised it to an average of 75 percent. The 2024 budget implementation stands at 80 percent, as did last year’s. We have implemented various mechanisms to execute the budget, aligned with our development pillars, and established delivery strategies to ensure the impact of most of the budget.”

“We have also initiated numerous reforms to close leakages and improve service delivery efficiency. Additionally, we have explored new revenue streams and launched massive digitalization efforts to increase revenue without overtaxing residents.”

The Governor further explained that measures like Medium Revenue Strategies and Medium Term Expenditure Framework reforms, as well as regular meetings to monitor all initiatives, were part of the efforts to improve state revenue.

He added that infrastructure projects like the cargo airport and the commencement of the Inland Dry Port were established to attract more investors to the state.

Abiodun highlighted that Ogun West Senatorial District has benefited from over 600 kilometers of roads constructed by his administration in the past five years, listing projects such as the GRA road at Ota, Ilaro-Owode, Atan-Lusada-Agbara, and Oke-Irija-Ilobi roads.

He described the meeting as a crucial engagement, providing residents the opportunity to voice their demands and aspirations, which would serve as feedback not only for the MTEF but also for the 2025 budget.

The Commissioner for Budget Planning, Mr. Olaolu Olabimtan, also commended the valuable contributions of the state’s residents to previous budgets, stating that public input would play a vital role in shaping the 2025 budget.

The Olu of Ilaro and Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, represented by the Onimeko of Imeko, Oba Benjamin Olanite, called for further road reconstruction in the area to support economic activity.
