Nigeria’s leading carrier, Air Peace, has been summoned by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) following a surge of complaints from passengers over unrefunded cancelled flights.

The consumer protection agency, in a notice issued to the airline, directed Air Peace to appear at its headquarters in Abuja on June 23 to provide explanations on the growing number of refund-related grievances received from passengers across the country.

Affected customers have alleged that after their flights were cancelled by the airline, efforts to recover their ticket refunds proved futile, with many expressing frustration over what they described as poor customer service and delayed communication.

In a statement released on Monday, Air Peace confirmed receipt of the commission’s summons and stated that it would honour the invitation. The airline said it remains committed to regulatory compliance and transparency.

“Air Peace confirms the receipt of summons from the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) regarding complaints over refunds,” the statement read. “In line with our tradition of cooperation with regulatory agencies, we will honour the invitation and provide necessary clarifications at the scheduled hearing.”

The airline defended its operational procedures, stating that it follows due process in handling all refund requests in accordance with aviation best practices. It reiterated its respect for the law and commitment to maintaining a professional relationship with government authorities.

The June 23 hearing will provide the platform for Air Peace to clarify its refund policies before the commission. Depending on the outcome, the FCCPC may either initiate further regulatory actions or outline steps to ensure better protection for consumers in the aviation sector.
