The British High Commission in Nigeria has dismissed recent claims circulating on social media suggesting that the United Kingdom has introduced new visa restrictions targeting Nigerian nationals.

In an official statement released on Wednesday, the Commission clarified that no new immigration rules have been implemented specifically for Nigeria, and urged the public to disregard unverified reports hinting at a blanket visa ban.

“We keep our immigration system under constant review to allow legal migration and legitimate travel while deterring those who may seek to abuse it,” the statement read.

The UK also reaffirmed its commitment to a long-standing relationship with Nigeria, especially in fostering strong people-to-people ties.

“Our UK and Nigeria people-to-people links are strong and enduring, and we continue to work closely with the Government of Nigeria to tackle irregular migration,” the Commission added.

The British High Commission encouraged concerned individuals to contact its Press and Public Affairs team for any enquiries, noting that its collaboration with Nigeria remains robust despite concerns over immigration.

This clarification comes amid heightened speculation online about potential changes to UK visa policies affecting Nigerians.
