In a dramatic turn of event that could redefine the internal dynamics of Nigeria’s main opposition party, the Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP) has declared that party members across the country have reached a “consensus” to expel Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, from the PDP.

Barr. Obinna Nwachukwu, Protem National Coordinator of the CP-PDP disclosed this in a press release on Sunday, April 13.

The CP-PDP revealed that it had completed a sweeping collation of memoranda submitted by party faithful from the ward to national level, documents that reportedly capture deep-seated frustrations over alleged Wike’s open allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The consensus is clear and loud, Barr. Nyesom Wike should be summarily expelled from the PDP for his anti-party activities, including his open campaign for the APC in the forthcoming 2026 FCT Council Elections and the 2027 Presidential election.”

The report accuses Wike of violating multiple provisions of the PDP Constitution, particularly Sections 10(6), 57, and 58, which outline disciplinary actions for party disloyalty. According to the CP-PDP, these infractions fall squarely under Section 59, which mandates expulsion in such cases.

Wike, a former governor of Rivers State and influential PDP figure, who is also the leader of the aggrieved governors on the platform of the party codenamed G-5 Governors, has long been a controversial powerbroker within the party.

His alliance with the APC, according to critics, amounts to “subterranean sabotage.” The CP-PDP minced no words, describing his behavior as “hauling insults on the party,” and accused him of holding the PDP hostage with his “outbursts, threats and personal ambition.”

In what many analysts are calling a decisive moment, the CP-PDP has urged the PDP’s top brass including the National Working Committee (NWC), Board of Trustees (BoT) and the Governors’ Forum, to enforce the majority will of the party and “free the party from the stranglehold of individuals who parade, speak and act as if they own the PDP.”

“Fundamental to the survival and success of a political party like the PDP is its ability to reflect and implement the aspirations of the majority.

“This is the only way to reassure the public that the PDP remains a serious platform for democratic leadership,” Nwachukwu said.

The press release also called for the sanctioning of all PDP members who have allegedly aligned with the APC and Wike in undermining the party’s unity and electoral prospects.

“We will not allow personal egos to derail this party,” Nwachukwu emphasized. “The time for discipline is now,” Nwachukwu concluded.

Meanwhile, Governors on the platform of the party are currently meeting in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo state to chart a new course for PDP amid growing coalition speculation with other opposition parties ahead of 2027 general election.
