Mojisola Meranda has officially assumed office as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

She was accompanied to her new office by all the lawmakers, with the exception of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Following the formal ceremony, Meranda and the lawmakers posed for photographs, symbolizing their collective support for her leadership.

In a celebratory mood, the lawmakers praised the Speaker and urged her to continue her work.

“Madam, continue your work; your work is appealing to us. You are the Speaker, you are the Speaker, you are the Speaker,” they chanted.

“Speak for Lagos. Continue with your work,” they added in unison.

After the accolades, the lawmakers followed Meranda to her official office, where intense prayers were offered as she settled into her new role.

This development comes days after former Speaker Obasa claimed that his removal was unconstitutional and did not follow due process.

Meanwhile, security has been strengthened around the Lagos State House of Assembly to ensure a smooth and peaceful plenary session.

A notice signed by Omotayo Adekemi on behalf of the Acting Clerk of the House, Mr. Taiwo Ottun, stated:

“Following management directives, all staff members and legislative aides must present valid identity cards to access the House premises.

“Entry will be denied anyone without a valid ID card. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.”

Additionally, the Lagos State Police Command has assured the public that it will maintain order throughout the state.

State Commissioner of Police, Ishola Olawale, said in an interview on Sunday: “While the Police have no business inside the Assembly, it is our duty to ensure calmness outside the premises and across the state.”
