Supporters of Mudashiru Obasa, the impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, have gathered at the Speaker’s Lodge on Joel Ogunnaike Street, GRA Ikeja, Lagos.
The supporters assembled on Saturday morning wearing pro-Obasa vests and caps.
Journalists learnt the group gathered to welcome Obasa who was abroad at the time of his impeachment.
Armed security personnel, including policemen, are present at the scene to maintain order.
The choice of the Speaker’s Lodge as venue for the welcome party was not immediately clear since Obasa is no longer Speaker of the Lagos Assembly.
Obasa was impeached on January 13 by more than two-thirds of the 40-member legislative house over alleged misconduct and sundry offences.
His deputy, Mojisola Meranda, was immediately elected the new Speaker, becoming the first female to take charge of the legislative body in the South-West state.
Obasa, from Agege Constituency I, was first elected into the House in 2007. He has since been in the chamber since then. He emerged speaker in June 2015.
