The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced the discontinuation of all data modification services at its National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment centres.

The commission disclosed this in a video posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) platform on Wednesday, directing citizens to its online self-service modification portal.

The shift was expected to eliminate the long wait and queues often associated with in-centre services, offering greater convenience to users, the national identity manager said.

“As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the national identity management system, NIMC has introduced a significant policy change across all enrollment offices nationwide.

“Modification activities will no longer be conducted at our enrollment centres. Instead, we have launched a convenient self-service modification portal, empowering you to update your information securely and efficiently online,” the commission explained in the video.

NIMC outlined the benefits of the new portal, which aimed to streamline the identity update process by allowing Nigerians to modify their information remotely.

The commission further emphasized that the self-service portal was designed with enhanced security features to safeguard personal data, ensuring a secure and efficient process for updating identity information.

Meanwhile, the commission’s Director General, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, disclosed last month that the number of NINs had increased to 110 million, a 2.39 per cent increase from the 107.34 million that was recorded as of the end of May 2024.
