In recent weeks, a cloud of uncertainty has hovered over the students in Osun State, following the announcement of a bursary grant aimed at supporting final year students and fresh graduates. Promises of financial relief quickly turned sour as administrative hurdles and opaque communication channels left many questioning the integrity of the process.

On February 19th, 2024, hope emerged with the announcement of a #20,000 bursary grant to be disbursed to 3000 eligible beneficiaries across the region. However, this optimism was short-lived as the National Association of Osun State Students (NAOSS) imposed a mandatory #2,000 due, leaving students scrambling to meet the unexpected financial burden.

Compounding the issue, the submission deadline for application forms was set for February 26th, 2024, placing undue pressure on already financially strained students. Despite meeting this deadline, students were met with silence and frustration as the promised disbursement date came and went without explanation.

On March 16th, a glimmer of hope was extinguished as a press release from NAOSS officials cited delays in the submission of beneficiary lists from local governments. With no clear timeline for resolution, students are left in limbo, questioning the sincerity of the entire process.

The lack of transparency and accountability in the handling of this bursary scheme has raised serious concerns among students. Many are now questioning whether they have been duped by those entrusted to represent their interests. Calls for accountability and action are growing louder as students demand answers.

As the student population reels from the financial strain of meeting arbitrary dues and navigating bureaucratic hurdles, the need for transparency and fairness has never been greater. Students should not be forced to bear the brunt of administrative inefficiencies and opaque processes.

It is time for NAOSS and relevant government agencies to address these concerns head-on and restore faith in the integrity of student welfare initiatives. Failure to do so risks further eroding trust and confidence in the very institutions meant to support and uplift students.

In the face of adversity, students remain resilient, united in their quest for fairness and justice. The road ahead may be uncertain, but the voice of the student community will not be silenced until accountability is achieved and justice is served.

As the sun sets on another day of uncertainty, students across Ijesaland remain vigilant, hopeful for a resolution that honors their trust and upholds the principles of fairness and transparency.

When will they be paid?
If Bursary is not feasible again, when will they refund the criminalized NAOSS DUES of #2,000 collected from each of the students.
