Anambra state government has promised to increase the salaries of the civil servants in the state if he win the coming election next year.

Governor Willie Obiano disclosed this during the 2017 Mother’s Summit held yesterday at the Professor Dora Akunyili Women development Center in Awka.

The Summit with the theme, “Occupation and Motherhood : Getting our priorities right for a peaceful home and society “, was attended by representatives of women groups from the 179 communities of the state, religious and socio-cultural institutions in the State among others.

Governor Obiano who announced that the State Government has commenced budget presentation for the 2018 fiscal year, said the implementation of the increase will commence immediately the budget is passed early next year.

The Governor further revealed that the sum of 2 billion will be earmarked for disbursement free of interest to women groups in the Agricultural and Business areas in the 2018 budget, adding that the State’s Small Business Agency has been directed to reduce the hitherto stringent conditions for accessing the fund to just identification by religious and traditional leaders of applicants for the loan.

This he noted, is part of his administration’s efforts at supporting women to participate effectively in the socio-economic development of the state and in supporting their families by empowering them financially.

Felicitating with the mothers for a successful Summit, Governor Obiano appealed to them to continue to support his administration in its second term bid to ensure that it realizes its lofty vision for them.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Bar Rita Maduagwu while acknowledging that the theme is apt considering the efforts of the present administration at giving voice to women in the State, commended the wife of the Governor, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano for uplifting the living standard of women through her Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFEI program.

In a presentation, the State Commissioner for Education, Prof Kate Omenugha highlighted what she tagged the soft aspects of governance that Governor Obiano has distinguished himself in which include empowerment of physically challenged persons, providing succour to orphans and disadvantaged persons, describing him as a leader with a human face.

In a goodwill message, the Chairman, Willie Obiano Re-election Campaign Committee, Chief Victor Umeh pointed out that the year’s edition of the summit is strategic as it provides the avenue to remind the women of the need to support the consolidation of good governance in state, as according to him, by all parameters, Governor Obiano has in three years performed more than his predecessors in their first four years.

The Governor also during the ceremony handed 24 sets of Oil, Garri and Rice Processing machines to women cooperatives across the state.
