Oyo State Soccer Star Slumps, Dies During Match in Okeho

Tragedy occurred in Okeho, Kajola Local Government Area of Oyo State, when a promising footballer, Oyekunle Baaki, popularly known as Smart slumped and died during a football match.

Smart, 27 a player with United FC Okeho died on Wednesday night, while featuring in Eleniyan football competition between his team and Accurate FC, Iganna.

Vanguard gathered that the tragic incident occured during the extra time after the match ended goalless in the 90 minutes.

According to one of the fans: “Before the match commenced, he snapped with some of the players and uploaded them on his Snapchat.”

“He was alone, nobody was with him, he just slumped and people rushed to help him but he died before they got to the hospital.”

Mufideen Dallax , a community youth leader in Okeho while speaking with Vanguard, said: “His death was shocking, I knew him to be a kind and resourceful person.”

“He was a great and promising soccer star who stood the chance of a better future in his career, but unfortunately, death has killed the dream and vision. He will be sorely missed.”

He has been laid to rest this morning [Thursday] at Okeho Muslim burial ground along Okeho Iseyin road.
