President Bola Tinubu has ordered a 60 per cent reduction in the cost and size of staff ministers’ travel entourages for both domestic and international trips as well as those of the Vice President, the Office of the President, and the First Ladies’ staff.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, stated this on Tuesday while addressing state house reporters at the presidential villa in Abuja.
According to him, the president has ordered the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) to send circulars to all ministries and departments informing them of the directive.
A portion of the instruction said that only 20 employees from the president’s office, five from the vice president’s, and five employees from the first lady’s office would be allowed to travel internationally.
The number of staff members travelling on official local trips has also been whittled down from 25 in the president’s office to 15 in the vice president’s office and 15 in the offices of both of their wives.
While executive chairpersons of federal agencies would be reduced to two, every minister would have no more than four members of their staff anywhere in the world.
The instruction also mandates that the security agencies comprising of the DSS, Police and Military handle the President’s security detail for short-term visits in the states the president will be visiting.
