A former APC Presidential aspirant, Charles Udeogaranya, has urged President Bola Tinubu to put his 2027 re-election campaign on hold and concentrate on delivering his four-year mandate. He disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday.

While arguing that it is too early to start tackling oppositions and seeking endorsement at the expense of the good governance the President promised Nigerians, Udeogaranya declared that such actions are also a clear violation of the Electoral Act.

He said, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu needs to go low and silence his 2027 presidential ambition, particularly from his surrogates, which I think is Ill-timed.

“There is time for everything, and now is the time for governance till June 2026 at least.”

His admonition comes barely two days after the Independent National Electoral Commission warned political parties and candidates against engaging in premature electioneering activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, the commission has not yet released the official timetable or schedule of activities for the 2027 polls.

Oyekanmi voiced his disapproval amid growing concerns over the proliferation of political posters, subtle endorsements, and escalating verbal exchanges among political figures, signs many observers interpret as early signs of campaign activity.

Udeogaranya, an ardent follower of Zikist ideology, lamented that the obsession with 2027 had already begun to overshadow pressing governance issues in some states, including Anambra.

He said, “Political hibernation has a place in politics and it’s carefully executed in order not to pollute or heat the polity, so that governance can enjoy optimum time”.

“No amount of time is enough for politicians to conduct their trade through more meetings, mobilisations and refreshments on the same dried purse meant for people’s welfare. Therefore, it must be curtailed to gain more time for governance “.
