Afrobeats superstar Davido has unfollowed Nollywood actress and activist Iyabo Ojo on Instagram, following the leak of a private WhatsApp conversation in which she questioned his sincerity in supporting the Justice for Mohbad campaign.
The controversy erupted after outspoken social media critic VeryDarkMan posted screenshots of the chat, showing Iyabo expressing deep disappointment over Davido’s continued social media connection with Naira Marley, a figure widely criticized in the wake of Mohbad’s mysterious death.
“My problem is not even with that black whatever, it is Davido who flew down like he claimed to fight for justice, but he still dey follow Naira Marley,” Iyabo allegedly wrote.
“That means he was chasing clout. I’m so disappointed and to think he has been saying he is the only superstar artist who stood by Mohbad. Just fake love 001.”
The leaked message sparked heated debate online and appears to have prompted Davido’s decision to unfollow Iyabo Ojo, a check confirmed on Tuesday. Interestingly, Iyabo still follows Davido, at least for now.
The tension revives public interest in the tragic death of Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, who passed away in September 2023 under suspicious circumstances. The incident triggered nationwide protests, candlelight processions, and renewed calls for protection of young artists in the music industry.
Davido was one of the high-profile celebrities who participated in the candlelight walk and showed public support for Mohbad’s family at the time.
Iyabo Ojo, on her part, was a vocal figure in the campaign, organizing advocacy efforts and even creating a WhatsApp group for coordination. However, in a recent interview, she admitted she regretted her role in pushing for Mohbad’s body to be exhumed, stating the entire process left her emotionally drained.
