PUNCH Online reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission had fixed August 16, 2025, for a bye-election for Ibadan North Federal Constituency following the sudden demise of a lawmaker representing the constituency, Musiliudeen Akinremi, who died on July 10, 2024, in Abuja.

It will also be recalled that the APC primary to pick a candidate for the Federal Constituency, on Saturday, July 19, 2025, was marred with violence.

Nine aspirants declined to participate in the election as they alleged fraud in the conduct of the election

They insisted that no election was held, contrary to the report that a candidate had emerged.

However, the youth in the Local Government protested to draw the attention of President Bola Tinubu and other chieftains of the party to the present development in the state.

The protesters, speaking through Segun Adetula, said the action became imperative due to the current development in the council area.

He said, “The protest was necessitated by the present development in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency that bothers on the election of the party’s candidate for the August 16 bye-election. We can not wait to see the party being denied to field a candidate for the August 16 by-election as a result of the reported inadequacies.

‘We have laboured hard for the party to win the forthcoming election. It will be a labour loss on our part should the PDP win the election. Why is it difficult for the leadership of the party to conduct a credible bye-election?

“If President Tinubu could subject himself to the leadership of the party, I don’t see reason why any member should do otherwise,” he lamented
