The political atmosphere in Osun State intensified on Tuesday as the constituency office of Hon. Busayo Oluwole Oke issued a sharply worded response to recent remarks by lawyer and political aspirant, Pelumi Olajengbesi, describing his ambitions as “futile” and his methods as “juvenile bravado.”

In a press statement released by the Public and Media Communication Unit of the Ijesa North Federal Constituency Office, Hon. Oke’s supporters dismissed Olajengbesi as “a political pedestrian” who lacks the grassroots support, political experience, or strategic depth required to mount a credible challenge.

The response comes after Olajengbesi publicly accused Hon. Wole Oke of being a “political irritant” and a longtime beneficiary of “public funds,” in an apparent criticism of Oke’s recent defection and continued political relevance.

According to the statement, “Pelumi is not even close to the field. He is still operating behind press statements and name-calling while the people he seeks to represent barely know him beyond social media.”

Hon. Wole Oke, a ranking federal lawmaker and long-serving representative of Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, recently decamped from the PDP amid reported tensions with party leaders. His office described the move not as a betrayal of principle but as “a necessary response to broken loyalties within his former fold.”

“Hon. Oke has never held an executive position or abused power. He has remained a legislator because the people have continued to trust him. That is the democratic process,” the statement added.

The communication unit also took aim at Olajengbesi’s past political attempts, referring to his performance during the last House of Assembly election as “humiliating.” It further warned that his confrontational style may alienate potential allies within and outside his party.

The release read in part: “Pelumi’s descent into personal attacks and political smear campaigns does not reflect the maturity required for leadership. Politics is not student activism. It demands patience, grassroots rapport, and the wisdom to navigate complex realities.”
