The Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, has claimed that former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has shelved his presidential ambition and now finds himself in a tussle for the vice-presidential slot with former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Bwala made the remarks during an interview on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, while reacting to recent developments surrounding the emerging political realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to Bwala, Peter Obi has effectively stepped down for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar under an arrangement in the new African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition that positions Atiku to run for a single term, with an understanding to hand over power to Obi.

“Peter Obi now is a non-issue. He’s a non-starter. He has already conceded his presidential ambition to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar,” Bwala stated.

He further alleged that Obi has been offered the position of Director-General of the coalition’s campaign, while simultaneously jostling with Amaechi for the vice-presidential ticket.

“Now, he has become a second fiddle and is being made to fight for the vice-presidential ticket with Rotimi Amaechi. From what we are hearing, they have convinced him that he will be DG of the campaign. Then, when they win the election, Atiku will do one term and Peter Obi will come back to become president,” Bwala said.

The ADC, which is now serving as a new coalition platform, reportedly has the backing of major political figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi a mix of former presidential contenders from different political backgrounds seeking to form a united front ahead of 2027.
