The All Progressives Congress (APC) has branded as false reports suggesting that all sitting National Assembly members from the party will be handed tickets to run in the 2027 election without contesting primaries.

In a statement issued Tuesday, National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka urged party members and the public to dismiss the rumour. Morka noted that a viral headline—“APC Grants Automatic Tickets to All National Assembly Members”—did not come from the party. “This report is fake news and of mischievous origin,” he said. “It should be disregarded in its entirety.”

Some APC members worried that current lawmakers would be allowed to skip primaries entirely, shutting out hopefuls at the state and grassroots levels.

Yet sources within the party insist there is no such directive—nor has the APC National Working Committee ever discussed granting automatic tickets to any sitting senator or House member. According to the party’s constitution, every aspiring candidate must still contest primaries and win over delegates, regardless of whether they already hold office.

Lately, debates over zoning formulas and how delegates are chosen have only stoked rumours. By quickly debunking the viral posts, Party leaders hope to calm anxieties and show that the nomination rules remain open and competitive.
