President Bola Tinubu has intervened in the Lagos State House of Assembly crisis as members of the Lagos State House of Assembly joined by the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, on Wednesday, met him at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Obasa, however, declined comments after the closed-door meeting as he departed the State House, via the alleyway.

Speaker Mudashiru Obasa had arrived about 2:50p.m and was led separately to the president’s office, while his colleagues arrived earlier in two Coaster buses that were driven through the forecourt route for the scheduled closed-door meeting.

Sources disclosed that the meeting was in connection with the recent leadership crisis in the state House of Assembly.

Emerging from Tinubu’s office at about 4:30p.m, members of the delegation were heard chorusing the lyrics, “On your mandate, we shall stand.

For about five minutes the lawmakers sang “On your mandate, we shall stand,” a popular political lyric commonly used by supporters of President Tinubu to affirm their loyalty to him.

The song rented the air as they filed out towards the two Coaster buses parked and waiting for their departure from the forecourt area of the Presidential Villa.

Meanwhile, Obasa resisted prodding to speak to newsmen as he made his way out of the Presidential Villa.

He was joined by James Faleke, a member of the House of Representatives as well as a protocol officer.

Recall that Speaker Obasa was impeached by some of his colleagues but was later reinstated on March 3, 2025, following the intervention of the political stakeholders of the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Governing Advisory Council (GAC).

Despite the speaker’s reinstatement, it was gathered that the bad blood as a result of his impeachment is yet to be over.

It was not also clear whether the delegation was at the Presidential Villa for a thank you visit, probably concerning the underground intervention from the presidency.
