The Nigerian Army has rescued 27 passengers abducted by armed men in Amoda community, Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State.
The victims were freed after troops of Operation Whirl Stroke stormed the kidnappers’ camp and overpowered them in a coordinated operation.
Army authorities said the breakthrough in Benue was part of a wider nationwide campaign against terrorists and criminal gangs, which in the past week led to the killing of 15 insurgents, the arrest of 42 suspects, and the rescue of 30 kidnapped victims across different states.
In the North East, troops clashed with Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters in Dikwa, Gwoza, Bama, Banki, and Gujba. Fifteen insurgents were killed, with caches of rifles, grenades, explosives, motorcycles, and communication gadgets recovered.
Elsewhere, security operatives arrested 15 suspects in Kaduna for drug offences, 25 others in Bayelsa for oil theft, and two more in Delta State. In the South South, several illegal crude oil bunkering sites were also destroyed in Imo, Rivers, and Delta.
