The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Kamilu Saidu Wambai of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the Zamfara House of Assembly by-election for Kaura-Namoda South Constituency.

The Returning Officer, Professor Lawal Sa’adu of the Federal University, Gusau, announced the results at the Kasuwar Daji Collation Centre on Thursday. He confirmed that Wambai secured the highest number of votes and met all legal requirements.

“Saidu Kamilu of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” Prof. Sa’adu declared.

INEC had earlier declared the August 16 poll inconclusive after the APC garnered 6,999 votes against the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 5,339 votes, leaving a margin of 1,660. The supplementary election was subsequently scheduled for August 21.

A ward-by-ward breakdown showed APC leading in four out of six wards, while PDP secured victory in two.

Ahead of the supplementary election, Zamfara State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mahmuda Isah, assured voters and political parties of a transparent and hitch-free process. With Thursday’s conclusion, APC has now consolidated its lead in the constituency.
