The Transformative Governance Forum (TGF) has joined millions across the world to celebrate the birthday of Pan-Africanist leader, Marcus Mosiah Garvey, describing him as a “prophet of Black Renaissance” whose ideas remain relevant to Africa’s development and liberation.
In a statement from the Office of the Director of Strategic Engagements and Partnerships, and signed by Mr. Ademola Rabiu, the Forum said Garvey’s message of self-reliance, dignity, and unity still guides its own work in Nigeria.
The Forum noted that Garvey’s famous call of “Africa for Africans” was more than a slogan, insisting it has become a governance mandate for groups working to deepen democracy and accountability.
According to the statement, TGF is walking in Garvey’s footsteps by building grassroots structures across the 774 local government areas of Nigeria, mobilising 36 state chapters and the FCT, and working with the diaspora for stronger political empowerment.
The Forum pledged to honour Garvey’s legacy by forging stronger ties with Africa and the Caribbean, demanding justice in the management of resources such as Niger Delta oil, and grooming young leaders who will carry forward his vision of self-determination.
“Though statues may be toppled and histories erased, Garvey’s spirit lives on in our #LGAFirst campaign, our voter education brigades, and our diaspora alliances from London to Atlanta,” the statement said.
