Barring any last-minute changes, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Friday depart Abuja for a two-nation trip to Japan and Brazil, following an adjustment to the earlier travel schedule.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, had on Wednesday announced that the President would leave Abuja on Thursday, with a stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, before heading to Japan.

However, Villa sources told The Guardian that the President spent Thursday attending to official engagements in Abuja, including a closed-door meeting with the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.

Multiple presidential aides confirmed that the trip will now commence on Friday. In Japan, Tinubu will participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), taking place in Yokohama from August 20 to 22, before proceeding to Brazil for the second leg of his visit.
