The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has debunked reports suggesting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refused to recognise the party’s new leadership under former Senate President, Senator David Mark.

There were claims on Tuesday that some state chairmen of the party had petitioned INEC to disregard any change of leadership. Social media posts also alleged that the electoral body had rejected ADC’s new executives and their candidates ahead of the upcoming by-elections.

However, in a swift reaction, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the reports as completely false.

“The attention of ADC has been drawn to a story circulating that the @inecnigeria has refused to recognise the new leadership of our party under the Distinguished Senator David Mark,” Abdullahi said in a statement posted on his X handle.

“This story is entirely false and should be ignored. We urge Nigerians to ignore such misleading reports from any quarters and stay focused on mobilising the long suffering people of Nigeria for the great task to save our dear country,” he added.

Recall that a coalition of opposition leaders recently adopted the ADC as a political platform to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election, naming Senator David Mark as interim chairman and former Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, as secretary.

Efforts to get INEC’s official response regarding recognition of the party’s new leadership or candidates for the by-elections proved abortive, as officials did not respond to calls or text messages as of press time.
