The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of launching premature re-election campaigns for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in clear violation of Nigeria’s electoral laws.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC described the ongoing rallies, billboards, and political endorsements of Tinubu across the country as “unlawful, insensitive, and a mockery of the hardship Nigerians are facing.”

The party said while the APC is parading President Tinubu as a “sole candidate” and painting the streets with campaign materials, millions of Nigerians are grappling with inflation, a collapsing naira, rising petrol prices, and worsening insecurity.

“While the ruling party chants ‘four more years,’ prices have galloped beyond the reach of ordinary citizens,” the ADC noted.

The statement highlighted recent economic challenges, including a sharp drop in the naira’s value — from around N461 to over N1,500 against the dollar — and the surge in petrol prices, now averaging more than N1,000 per litre. The party also pointed to persistent power grid collapses and what it called a failure of governance in key sectors.

On security, the ADC decried the spate of killings and abductions, citing over 3,100 security-related deaths and more than 50 people abducted in Zamfara in a single incident last Friday.

“Nigerians are being abducted on an industrial scale while President Tinubu chases adoption for a second term,” the party stated.

The ADC warned that campaigning is illegal until 150 days before the 2027 elections, as reminded recently by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and demanded the removal of all campaign billboards currently erected nationwide.

The party vowed to continue challenging the APC both in the public space and at the polls, saying:
