President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has rewarded Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with $100,000 each, national honours (OON), and a plot of land in Abuja, following their record-breaking victory at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.

The technical crew was not left out, as each member received $50,000 in recognition of their pivotal role in the team’s success.

The President hosted the team at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, where they were honoured for their historic 78–64 win over Mail in the final, securing a fifth consecutive AfroBasket title  an unmatched feat in African women’s basketball.

Speaking at the event on behalf of the President, Vice President Kashim Shettima hailed the team’s “unshakable discipline, unity, and patriotic drive,” noting that the reward reflects the Tinubu administration’s dedication to celebrating Nigerian excellence and empowering women.

Also speaking at the event, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu commended the players for their resilience and pride in the green-white-green, praising Head Coach Rena Wakama for her leadership and for making history as the first woman to coach a team to AfroBasket glory.
