In a statement shared via her official X handle on Friday, Meranda expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the former lawmaker, who represented Ojo Constituency I in the Assembly from 2015 to 2023.

“Today, I pause in heartfelt sorrow to honour the memory of Hon. Victor Oluwasegun Akande, former Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ojo Constituency I,” she wrote.

Meranda highlighted Akande’s role as Chairman of the Assembly Committee on Justice, Human Rights, Public Petitions and LASIEC during his time in office, noting that his contributions reflected “a deep commitment to justice, integrity, and the well‑being of Lagosians.”

She extended her condolences to his family, friends, and constituents, praying for strength and comfort for them during this period of mourning.

“Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of public service, advocacy for justice, and unwavering dedication to community will endure. May his soul rest in perfect peace even as we ask that his family receives the fortitude to bear this great loss,” the deputy speaker added.
