The Federal Government says it will establish cattle breeding centres in all six geo-political zones of the country as part of efforts to improve livestock production and address recurring farmer-herder conflicts.

Minister of State for Agriculture, Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, disclosed this in Kaduna during the second day of the Citizens-Government Engagement and Midterm Review of the Tinubu administration, organised by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Foundation.

According to him, the move aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

“The synergy and collaboration of the Ministries of Agriculture, Environment, Water Resources, Livestock Development, and the Blue Economy are imperative for delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda,” the Minister said.

Meanwhile, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) has thrown its weight behind the federal government’s move and called on state governments to take a cue.

MACBAN President, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, who spoke at the inauguration of the new executive of the Kaduna State chapter of the association, commended President Tinubu for creating a separate Ministry of Livestock Development.

He said the step will not only boost the country’s economy through livestock production but also help tackle the age-long clashes between farmers and herders.

He also urged Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, to replicate the initiative in the state.

Representing the governor, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, James Kanyip, advised the Fulani community to be law-abiding and peaceful in their conduct.

He also charged the new MACBAN leadership to rise to the task, saying the times call for responsible and proactive leadership.
