The Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, is expected in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, any moment from now.

This follows the expiration of 21 days of mourning for the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.

Recall that Oba Olakulehin, who celebrated his 90th birthday on Saturday, June 5, 2025, joined his ancestors on Monday, June 7, 2025.

He was expected to mark his first coronation anniversary on Saturday, June 12, before he died.

The declaration of the mourning period was in accordance with an age-long tradition of Ibadan land.

Palace sources told newsmen in Ibadan, the state capital, on Sunday, that Oba Ladoja would make his first public appearance in Ibadan this week.

It was reliably gathered that arrangements had been concluded by his well-wishers to welcome him back home at his Ondo Street private residence in Ibadan, with a funfair.

A credible source said, “We are expecting Oba Ladoja any moment from now.

“The 21 days of mourning end tomorrow (Monday). He had earlier said he would mourn the deceased monarch as stipulated in our tradition in Ibadan land.

“So, he had paid tributes to the late referred monarch. We will brief the press at an appropriate time.”

Meanwhile, the late Oba Olakulehiun would be buried according to Christian rites.

The late Oba Olakulehin attended the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, in Ibadan and was a devout Christian till death.

“So, he would be buried according to Christian injunctions. He would be buried in that church,” a palace source revealed.

Another source said the burial would be held on August 8.

The sources said the government and family members were holding a meeting to give a befitting burial for the late Olubadan.

“You know this is a state burial. Until they (government and family members) announce officially, nobody can say anything about it. Let’s just be patient.

“The government has not fixed any day or date. 21 days of mourning actually end tomorrow (Monday). The government will inform the public, accordingly,” the source added.

When contacted, the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Gbenga Ayoade, simply said, “Everything is going on smoothly. The family of the late revered monarch will soon release a statement to that effect.”

As of press time, the media aide to the Olubadan-designate, Adeola Oloko, could not be reached for comment.
