A wave of sorrow and fury has swept through the Umueri village in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, following the brutal killing of a pregnant nurse, allegedly at the hands of a young man identified as Chiemelie Oborji.

According to community sources and commentary from a viral Facebook video, the suspect had deceived the victim by claiming his mother was critically ill and needed urgent medical attention. The unsuspecting nurse, believed to be heavily pregnant, responded to the distress call out of professional compassion — only to meet a gruesome end.

Eyewitness accounts claim that barely had she arrived at the residence when she was butchered in cold blood. The suspect, Chiemelie, reportedly fled the scene immediately after committing the act.

The nurse’s remains were later discovered dumped in a shallow pit near the suspect’s compound. A disturbing detail that has deepened the community’s anguish is the alleged mutilation of her body, with vital organs said to be missing — fuelling fears of a ritualistic motive.

A Facebook user and indigene of the area, posting under the name Iroko Ogbunike, revealed that the discovery has left the entire village devastated. “This is not just murder — this is pure evil. She came to help, and he took her life in the most brutal way,” he lamented.

In a heart-wrenching video that has since gone viral, villagers — mostly angry youths — were seen retrieving the body of the deceased nurse from the pit. One of them was heard shouting, “Chiemelie is wanted! He has brought disgrace to our land!”

The Ogbunike community is now grappling with the horror of the incident as security agencies intensify efforts to track down the fleeing suspect. Local leaders and elders have condemned the act, calling for calm while assuring residents that justice will prevail
