Some yet-to-be-identified assailants on Friday shot the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 8, 2025, Anambra State governorship election, Jude Ezenwafor.
The reason for the attack has not yet been ascertained, but it was gathered that the incident, which occurred late in the night, left the governorship candidate and two other unidentified persons seriously injured.
According to sources, the PDP stalwart, who has always expressed his displeasure at the current happenings within the party’s hierarchy, was shot in the legs near Wuse 2, Abuja, as he was on his way home from an appointment.
Insider sources within the party confirmed that the victim, who emerged unopposed as the PDP’s candidate, is currently receiving treatment in a private hospital, adding that doctors are preparing to carry out surgery to remove the bullets from his legs.
The news of the attack and the videos showing where the victim’s legs were shot were posted on the PDP Anambra governorship forum, with the victim thanking God for sparing his life from the attack.
Although when contacted on Saturday, one of his aides, who craved anonymity as he was not yet authorised to speak, confirmed the incident and simply said, “Yes, it happened. But it’s not something I want to talk about now, please.”
Also reacting to the development, the convener of “Ifeabata Students Movement,” a group in solidarity with the PDP candidate’s governorship ambition, Emma Anyanechi, issued a strong condemnation of the attack.
He said, “Dear Almighty God. We, the Ifeabata Students Movement, come before You with hearts full of gratitude and praise.
“Today, we express our deepest thanks for your divine protection and deliverance. You saved His Excellency Amb. Sir Jude C. Ezenwafor, from the hands of ambush, shielding him from harm and keeping him safe from evil plans.
“We strongly condemn the acts of ambush and aggression planned against him. May Your justice prevail, and may those responsible be held accountable.
“Thank you, Lord, for being our Rock, Refuge, and Saviour. We’ll forever praise Your holy name and trust in Your goodness. Your mercies are new every morning, and Your faithfulness is great. Continue to guide and protect our leader, granting him wisdom, strength, and courage. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.”
In his remarks, a frontline PDP senatorial aspirant in the August 16 Anambra South Senatorial District bye-election, Chinedu Nsofor, raised heartfelt prayers for national healing and peace:
“I pray for divine intervention in our land. May the Almighty God protect every sincere leader and candidate from the snare of the wicked. I pray that the spirit of violence, terrorism, kidnapping, political thuggery, and assassination will be destroyed completely in Nigeria.
“May our military and security agencies be empowered, and may the God of justice avenge every bloodshed by evil men. I ask that the peace of God flood across the North, South, East, and West of our great nation. May no parent mourn their child because of politics, and may Nigeria rise again with a new order of safety, unity, and progress. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.”
