Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has vowed to stand firm against election rigging and bad governance amid growing efforts by the opposition coalition to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027 general elections.

In a statement shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle on Saturday, Atiku said he made the declaration on Friday while receiving a delegation of Gombe State stakeholders led by former Minister and Senator, Idris Abdullahi.

The Gombe stakeholders had visited the former vice president to pledge their loyalty to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which the coalition recently adopted as its campaign vehicle to mount opposition against the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the next general elections.

Addressing the gathering, Atiku expressed concern over what he described as worsening governance in the country, stressing that Nigerians deserve better leadership that will prioritise their welfare.

“Yesterday, I vowed to stand against the stealing of elections and oppose bad governance. I stressed that enough is enough, and that Nigerians cannot continue to suffer amidst an abundance of resources owing to bad governance,” Atiku stated.

He pledged that the coalition leaders under the ADC would continue to work assiduously to deliver positive change that will transform the lives of Nigerians.

“The quality of the interim leadership shows that we are ready to bring integrity to the process and give Nigerians the responsible leadership they deserve,” he said.

Atiku commended the decision of the Gombe stakeholders to support the ADC, saying the move has further strengthened his belief that the coalition is on the right path.

He added that the delegation reminded him of the role he played in laying the foundation for Gombe’s development, including his support for Danjuma Goje’s emergence as governor in 2003.
