Newsmen gathered that the protest was as a result of the recent announcement made by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde to rename the institution.

Makinde, few days ago announced plans to rename The Polytechnic Ibadan to Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic, Ibadan in honour of the late former Oyo governor.

The students in the early hours of Tuesday blocked the gates of the institution. They also blocked the ever busy Sango – Eleyele Road, which caused commuters, residents and travellers plying the road to be stranded.

Some staff of the institution are also reportedly stranded as majority were unable to gain access to the institution.
