The Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) hosted a two-day management retreat focused on public sector reforms and institutional realignment under the ECN Act Amendment Bill, aimed at strengthening energy governance and operational efficiency.

The retreat, held at BON Hotel Octagon, brought together the Commission’s Directors, top management staff, and key stakeholders, including the Honourable Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, and the Director-General/Chief Executive Officer of the ECN, Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Abdullahi described the retreat as timely, noting that the ongoing review of the ECN Act was critical to aligning the Commission’s mandate with Nigeria’s current energy demands and climate-smart development goals.

He said the retreat served as a strategic platform for introspection and reform, stressing the need to improve internal operations, adopt modern energy planning tools, and ensure institutional efficiency across departments.

On his part, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Nnaji, commended the Commission for taking proactive steps to reposition itself in line with the priorities of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He charged the Commission to lead the country’s transition to sustainable energy systems and assured of the Ministry’s support in seeing through the legislative process on the ECN Amendment Bill.

Technical sessions during the retreat featured presentations on public sector reforms, procurement practices, and the operational manual of the ECN. Participants were tasked with developing innovative strategies that would enhance the Commission’s relevance and effectiveness in Nigeria’s evolving energy landscape.

The retreat is expected to inform key reforms that will shape the Commission’s role in national energy planning and coordination.
