He was accompanied by Senators Asuquo Ekpenyong, Ibrahim Dankwambo, and Titus Zam—all members of the Nigerian Senate Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs.

His media team shared this in a statement with PUNCH Online on Saturday.

Akpabio was received with ceremony and optimism by Dr. Dionysia-Theodora Avgerinopoulou, an influential member of the Hellenic Parliament and a renowned authority on climate and environmental policy in the Mediterranean.

“The presence of Nigeria in such forums not only strengthens parliamentary diplomacy but also amplifies African voices on the world stage,” said Dr. Avgerinopoulou as she welcomed the delegation.

Akpabio expressed the urgency of legislative collaboration in tackling shared challenges such as climate change, economic instability, and security in a statement,

The President of the Senate said, “In times like these, when the world teeters on environmental tipping points and geopolitical uncertainties, parliamentarians must rise above borders and ideologies. We must not only talk about global cooperation—we must embody it.”

The Nigerian delegation was also warmly welcomed by Ambassador Ayo Luther-Ogbomode, mni, Charge D’Affaires at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Athens.

As the IPU meeting gathers momentum, the release noted that all eyes are now on how parliamentary diplomacy—spearheaded by leaders like Akpabio—can translate into actionable global policy shifts. The week promises a series of high-level engagements, bilateral talks, and resolutions aimed at promoting legislative solidarity across nations.
