The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced plans to deploy trained members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) across all wards in Nigeria to accelerate the enrolment of citizens and legal residents into the National Identification Number (NIN) database.

The initiative, being executed in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth Development and the NYSC, is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at expanding access to digital identity across the country.

In a statement signed by the Commission’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Kayode Adegoke, NIMC said selected Corps members are currently undergoing intensive training ahead of their deployment to communities.

“This initiative is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s GCFR, Renewed Hope Agenda of enrolling and issuing the NIN to all Nigerians and legal residents within the shortest time possible,” the statement read.

The commission, which has so far issued NINs to over 120 million Nigerians and legal residents, said the new strategy is to reach underserved and remote areas through the Ward Enrolment Exercise.

NIMC encouraged Nigerians—especially children below the age of 16—to take advantage of the initiative and register at their respective wards when the deployment begins.

The Director-General of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, reaffirmed the agency’s target of enrolling 95% of Nigerians into the NIN database by December 2025.

“What we have done in this regard is that we will commence the Ward Enrollment Exercise to capture at least 95% of Nigerians before December, year-end,” she said.

According to her, the mass enrolment drive will be supported by expanded registration centres, upgraded infrastructure, and widespread public awareness campaigns.

She added that achieving this target would enable government agencies to accurately plan and deliver services to citizens.
