The Edo State Police Command has issued a safety advisory to women engaged in hookup-related activities, urging them to always inform trusted individuals of their location before meeting with anyone.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Joel Moses, gave the advice in a tweet on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, warning of rising cases of assault, abduction, and murder linked to so-called “hookup” arrangements.

“At least tell someone your location even if you are going for ‘hookup’,” Moses wrote. “Killers everywhere. Beware!!!”

The advisory comes amid increasing reports of women being attacked or going missing after meeting with strangers through hookup platforms or informal sexual transaction arrangements, often without informing friends or family.

The term “hookup” in Nigerian slang has become widely associated with transactional sex work or casual sex arrangements, mostly facilitated online or via social media platforms.
