The Federal Government has dismissed a recent security advisory issued by the United States Embassy, which cautioned its personnel and their families against non-official travel to military installations and certain government facilities within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Reacting to the advisory on Monday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, assured Nigerians and the international community that the FCT remains safe and that there is no imminent threat to public safety.
He emphasized that Nigeria’s security agencies are fully alert and have been working round-the-clock to secure lives and property across the country, particularly in Abuja.
“We understand the rights of foreign missions, including the U.S. Embassy, to issue advisories to their nationals. However, Abuja remains one of the safest capitals in the world,” Idris said.
The minister clarified that the U.S. advisory appears to be based on general global concerns and is not tied to any specific or credible threat within Nigeria’s capital.
“Our security architecture continues to function efficiently, recording successes in foiling and neutralizing potential threats. There is no cause for panic,” he added.
He further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding all residents and visitors, urging the public to continue their lawful activities without fear.
“We encourage everyone to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. But above all, we assure Nigerians and our international partners that Abuja is safe, stable, and secure,” the statement read.
