President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for restoring peace and unity in the state, while hinting at the toxic legacy left by the previous administration.

Tinubu, who visited Kaduna on Thursday to commission key projects, said the governor’s emphasis on reconciliation and inclusive governance had placed the state back on the path of progress.

Without naming names, the President appeared to distance himself from the style of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, under whose tenure Kaduna became known for deep ethnic divisions and sustained insecurity.

“Uba Sani is an agent of change, stability, love, unity and progress. He has changed the situation of toxic and uncontrollable environment to an atmosphere of peace and stability,” Tinubu said.

“I’m proud to be associated with you. Kaduna is back again, and I am happy to work with you.”

The President made the remarks after inaugurating the Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development in Rigachikun, Igabi LGA; the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital in Millennium City; and a fleet of 100 CNG buses.

Tinubu also promised that the Federal Government would support Kaduna’s development drive, including plans for a light rail system.

Political observers noted that Tinubu’s choice of words suggested dissatisfaction with the division and insecurity that characterised El-Rufai’s tenure, especially in the build-up to the 2023 elections.

The President also appreciated traditional rulers in Kaduna for standing behind the new administration, saying their support had been crucial to the state’s newfound peace.

Governor Uba Sani, on his part, said his administration was committed to building bridges across ethnic and religious lines, and thanked the President for recognising the state’s efforts.
