The National Opposition Coalition Group has submitted an application to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the registration of a new political party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).

The move, confirmed by INEC’s acknowledgement of the application on Friday, is led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, in partnership with other key political figures including former Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi and Umar Ardo, convener of the League of Northern Democrats.

The application, dated June 19, was signed by Chief Akin A. Rickets as Protem National Chairman and Abdullahi Elayo as Protem National Secretary. It included the proposed party’s constitution, manifesto, logo, and minutes of foundational meetings.

The coalition stated in the letter that the new party would use “Justice for All” as its slogan, with maize (corn) as its symbol—representing “abundance, resilience, and sustenance.”

“We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission, requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance, as a political party,” the letter stated.

The development comes amid growing dissatisfaction with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. It also follows recent warnings by INEC that all political associations must meet constitutional and legal requirements before recognition can be granted.

If approved, the ADA is expected to serve as a central platform for opposition forces seeking to unseat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next election cycle.
