A grassroots mobilisation campaign in support of Oyo State Governor, Engineer Oluwaseyi Abiodun Makinde, for Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election has commenced in Jigawa State, led by northern youth groups.

Posters bearing Makinde’s image and the insignia of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were spotted across major locations in Dutse, the state capital, including the Police Headquarters Roundabout, Unity Pentagon, Obasanjo Road, and Muhammadu Buhari Street, among others.

The initiative is spearheaded by the Nigeria Youths Awareness Group for Makinde 2027 (NYAG Makinde 2027), a coalition of young political mobilisers pushing for leadership shift and generational renewal ahead of the next general election.

Alhaji Lawal Abdullahi, National Secretary of the group, confirmed the effort during a media chat in Dutse on Friday, stating that the campaign was a deliberate move by young Nigerians to galvanise support for a competent and forward-looking leader.

“We have taken it upon ourselves as young Nigerians to identify leaders with capacity and clarity of purpose. Governor Seyi Makinde represents that hope for 2027,” Abdullahi said.

He added that the group has begun consultations with political stakeholders across the country and will expand visibility campaigns to other northern states in the coming weeks.

“We’re rolling out in Kano, Bauchi, Borno, Katsina, and Yobe in the next phase. It is a movement built on conviction, not political gimmicks,” he added.

Though Governor Makinde has yet to make any formal declaration about contesting the presidency, the growing wave of support, especially from youth-led northern groups, is seen as a sign of the political realignments taking shape ahead of 2027.
