Troops of the 17 Brigade under Operation FASAN YAMA, stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kurfi, Katsina State, on Tuesday repelled a terrorist ambush along the Kurfi–Batsari Road.
The encounter, which occurred around 5am on June 18, 2025, saw the troops engage the terrorists in a fierce gun battle. At the end of the clash, eight of the assailants were neutralised, and their attack foiled.
According to a statement from the Defence Headquarters, the troops recovered five AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and thirteen rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition from the fleeing insurgents.
One soldier sustained injuries during the confrontation and has since been evacuated to the 17 Brigade Medical Centre for treatment. Military authorities confirmed that the area is now calm, with troops maintaining high morale and combat readiness.
The Defence Headquarters praised the troops for their bravery and professionalism and assured Nigerians of the Armed Forces’ continued efforts in safeguarding lives and property across the country.
