The Osun State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has cautioned the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF) against releasing statutory allocations to local government accounts operated by individuals it described as “impostors.”

Addressing a press conference in Osogbo on Wednesday, the Osun NULGE President, Dr. Kehinde Ogungbangbe, said the union was in possession of a letter dated June 10, 2025, from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, which directed that local government accounts be opened through any two of the following officers: Chairman, Treasurer, Director of Finance and Administration, or Director of Personnel Management.

Ogungbangbe warned that such directive contradicted existing legal frameworks which stipulate that only designated career officers are authorized to handle local government finances.

“By law, the authorized signatories to Local Government Accounts are the Directors of Finance and Supplies and the Directors of Administration and General Services,” he said. “The Head of Local Government Administration and the Council Chairman shall only countersign for confirmation, as stipulated by the law.”

The NULGE president further alleged that there is a grand plot by the CBN to channel Osun State local government funds into private accounts operated by individuals who are not legitimate local government staff.

“We urge them to adhere to this provision to prevent any further complications and avoid financial malpractice,” he stated.

Ogungbangbe called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the matter to forestall financial mismanagement and ensure compliance with lawful procedures.

He commended Governor Ademola Adeleke for what he described as maturity and leadership in handling the issue and expressed appreciation to the national leadership of NULGE under Comrade Aliyu Haruna Kankara for supporting Osun workers.

“We are committed to safeguarding the interests of our members and the integrity of the local government system,” Ogungbangbe said.
