President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday paid a visit to victims of the brutal attack that claimed over 59 lives in Yelewata community, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

The President arrived at the Tactical Air Command of the Nigerian Air Force Base, Makurdi, at about 12:58 p.m. before heading straight to the hospital where some of the survivors are receiving treatment.

His visit followed last Friday’s coordinated assault on the community, which left scores dead and many others wounded. The attack has reignited nationwide concerns over persistent insecurity in Nigeria’s rural areas.

Shortly after visiting the hospital, President Tinubu proceeded to the New Banquet Hall of the Benue State Government House for a high-level meeting with major stakeholders from the state.

The closed-door meeting is aimed at charting a comprehensive path to peace and security in the region, particularly in areas that have been plagued by recurring violence and attacks on rural communities.

Present at the meeting were Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia; Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; service chiefs; lawmakers from the National Assembly; and other top government officials.

Also in attendance were governors from North-Central states, traditional rulers, community leaders, representatives of the affected families, and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

President Tinubu is expected to engage with displaced families and local stakeholders as part of efforts to not only understand the root causes of the violence but to implement a lasting solution to the crisis that continues to threaten peace and development in the region.
