President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed dissatisfaction with the failure of security agencies to apprehend suspects behind the recent massacre in Yelewata, Benue State, where dozens were killed and several others injured.

Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Benue State Government House in Makurdi on Wednesday, Tinubu questioned the readiness and responsiveness of the nation’s security architecture, particularly the police and intelligence services.

“How come no arrest has been made?” Tinubu asked, turning to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. “I expect there should be an arrest of those criminals.”

The President, who had earlier visited victims receiving treatment at a Makurdi hospital, also addressed top security officials, including the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, urging them to step up intelligence and tactical operations.

“You can’t be tired of staying in the bush,” he said, directing comments at General Musa. “Let’s get those criminals. Let’s get them out.”

Tinubu also instructed the heads of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) to overhaul their information networks to ensure such attacks are preempted in the future.

The President’s comments underscore growing concern over persistent violence in Benue State, especially in rural communities. Despite repeated attacks, arrests and convictions remain rare, prompting criticism of government efforts to tackle insecurity.

Stakeholders at the meeting included Governor Hyacinth Alia, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, service chiefs, and other political and traditional leaders from the region.
