We are deeply heartbroken by the gruesome and senseless killing of over 100 innocent Nigerians in the Yelewata and Daudu communities of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State. The scale of destruction, notably the burning of shelters housing internally displaced persons, is a chilling reminder of the urgent need for coordinated action against those who continue to threaten our peace and stability.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, to the people of Guma LGA, and the entire state of Benue. We also mourn the gallant soldiers who paid the ultimate price in defence of our nation. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. May the souls of all the departed rest in perfect peace.
Despite the deep sorrow, we remain hopeful. Hopeful because we know that evil cannot and will not triumph over good. We are confident because we believe in the resilience of the Nigerian people and the resolve of our armed forces. Hopeful because the voices of peace and justice will always be louder than the screams of violence.
We thank the armed security forces, including the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Police, as well as the Operation Whirl Stroke team, who responded to the attack, engaged the assailants, and continued to pursue those responsible. We commend their bravery in the face of grave danger and encourage them to stay focused and relentless.
At the same time, we call for an immediate and thorough investigation into this attack by the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu. The perpetrators of this heinous crime must not go unpunished. They must be hunted down, arrested, and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. There must be no hiding place for terrorists, bandits, or their sponsors.
This is a wake-up call. Security agencies must ramp up intelligence gathering, surveillance, and proactive deployment, particularly in border communities like Yelewata. The pattern of repeated attacks in the same area within a week is unacceptable. We must break the cycle.
We also urge the Federal Government, the Benue State Government, and humanitarian partners to provide immediate relief, medical care, and support to the survivors. Special attention must be given to IDPs who have now lost their temporary shelters and loved ones. Rebuilding their lives and restoring their dignity must begin now.
To the people of Benue and all Nigerians: do not despair. Our unity is our strength. Our collective voice must echo louder than the weapons of hatred. Together, we will heal. Together, we will overcome. And together, we will build a nation where no child sleeps in fear and no family is forced to mourn again due to preventable violence.

This is not just a call for justice, but it is a call for action. Let the bloodshed end. Let accountability begin. And let our nation rise, stronger and more united than ever before.
