Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has been conferred with the traditional chieftaincy title of “Ugosimba 1 of Enugu” — meaning “Jewel/Eagle from another kingdom” — by the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council.

The honour was bestowed on her during a two-day working visit to the state, with the official conferment held on Tuesday.

Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Igwe Ikechukwu Asadu, who performed the ceremony alongside other monarchs, said the title was in recognition of her exemplary public service, humanitarian efforts, and love for the people of Enugu State.

“Our First Lady served in the Senate for three consecutive terms and was honoured with the Commander of the Order of the Niger, CON. Nobody could say she was silent at the parliament,” Igwe Asadu said.

“The good news is the humanitarian part of you. We are thanking you for what you do for the midwives, for the nurses, for the sick, for the hungry. This is our way of saying thank you for loving Enugu.”

Responding, a visibly elated Senator Tinubu expressed deep appreciation to the people and government of Enugu State, describing the title as a profound honour not only to her but also to President Bola Tinubu and their entire family.

“Today is indeed a great honour to me personally and to my family. I love your state. It is very peaceful with a calm ambience. I want to thank Your Majesties for this special recognition. My husband will be delighted and I know our children will be, too,” she said.

“Though I have received titles before, this one is quite special and I believe it is God-ordained. Enugu State will be remembered for good in my heart.”

She also pledged continued commitment to humanitarian causes and urged Nigerians to work together for a better future.

Senator Tinubu’s visit to Enugu is part of her nationwide engagement under the Renewed Hope Initiative, focusing on women empowerment, health, and education.
